An architectural fragment transformed into an object.
This concrete bookend was born from a fascination with the silent power of Brutalism — its monolithic volumes, radical geometry, and unornamented beauty. Designed by an architect, it translates this architectural language to the intimate scale of an everyday object, somewhere between function and sculpture.
Each piece is handcrafted in my studio in Madrid using high-performance concrete formulated with ultra-fine aggregates. This carefully developed material composition allows for sharp edges, precise geometry, and a remarkably pure visual presence.
Its deep black tone is achieved through integral pigmentation using natural mineral pigments. The color does not simply coat the material — it becomes an inherent part of it. The result is a dense, matte black with lasting stability that enhances the sculptural character of the object.
The surface retains a subtly raw texture, recalling the materiality of Brutalist architecture. Balancing controlled roughness with geometric precision, the object oscillates between strength and restraint.
Conceived as a miniature architectural volume, this bookend brings structure to its surroundings. Its weight provides stable support for books while giving it a strong presence on a shelf, desk, or bookcase.
